Wow! Last evening as we went to meet our churches with which we will be partnering for the two weeks, we experenced the most overwheming sense of what it means to be a part of God´s awesome family! The love we experienced from complete stangers was - well...overwhelming! The worship was extremly vibrant, utterly cross-generational (with 8-80 year olds totally engaged with the sermon) and mostly made sense even though the entire event was in Portugueese. There was food, dancing, hugging, laughing, joking, sharing, starring, touching...and so many more words which I don´t have the time to type - a church experience where you stay awake even though you have been without sleep for nearly thirty-six hours must be good!!
I would like to propose to West Cliff that we replace the pews with plastic patio chairs!! Any votes?
hhtp://batistavdv.blogspot.com is the churches blog which Stella, Jacqui, Val and I are going. It´s called Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Travel in this country is bonkers...! There are going to be soooooo many stories!!!
Really looking forward to spenidng more time working with the church today (Monday)!
Please pray for a continuation of good relationships, safe travel, God´s grace as we come alongside the Pepe programme children and as we visit some folk in their homes today...
PS: The picture is of Pastor Dener preaching (note the plastic patio chairs!)
Great to read about your first day - a real buzz this end knowing you've arrived safely and are already getting your feet wet! I'm so thrilled to hear how the team are bonding together and to know you've been warmly welcomed by your churches - you are going to have such a great time!
ReplyDeleteTravel in another country? Probably the most challenging thing of all..!! Keep safe..!!
Love ya mate!

Wow!! Sounds like a great first day....it brings back some really happy memories!
ReplyDeleteYou have my vote for the plastic chairs by the way!
One of the things ive also been so encouraged to hear is how you guys have as Vicar Burfoot said "bonded"
Its so great to hear and it a real blessing both in the happy and exciting times and in the times when things will be tough and maybe overwhelming!!
I'm well excited!!
Can we have parasols to go with the chairs?
ReplyDeleteDid anyone time the sermon?
ReplyDeleteSeriously though, it's great to see you all immersed in the mission, we're praying for you.
PS: Chris, When I became a 'follower', I inadvertently added a load of defunct blogs to this Brazil blog! If you manage to get a minute (haha) can you delete my 'following' so I can add my following again - this time with just the one correct blog?
ReplyDeletePLEASE don't worry if this is a problem - I know you've plenty of much more important things to deal with. Prayers to you all.
